Those who are looking to learn how to lose weight may sometimes take interest in fad diets. While fad diets can help an individual to lose unwanted weight, they do not help the individual to learn healthy eating habits. In most cases, the individual who uses a fad diet to lose weight will gain that weight back over time. The best way for someone to lose weight and keep the weight off is to make proper changes to their everyday lives.

The first step to losing weight is to make changes to the food that is eaten each day. First, one should cut back on the amount of calories that they are consuming on a daily basis. Those who are looking to lose weight should be eating around 1,300 calories each day. There are certain foods that should be consumed and certain foods that should be avoided.

  • Ice Cream
  • Cookies
  • Doughnuts
  • Candy
  • Fried Foods

Some Foods To Consume:

  • Sweet Potatoes or Yams
  • Fruits – Some great choices are Mangoes, Strawberries, Raspberries, Watermelon
  • Plain, Non-fat Yogurt (my personal favorite is the Greek yogurt which has the most amount of protein)
  • Fish (Salmon, and Black Cod are great choices)
  • Snacks try snacking on nuts such as almonds, walnuts and sunflower seeds
  • Vegetables such as Turnips, Mustard Greens, Kale, Broccoli

Controlling portions is another healthy way to lose weight. Often times, an individual will take more than the average serving suggests. A good way to prevent overeating and over-sizing portions is to eat meals with water and chew slowly. Those who chew slower tend to eat less and those who drink water with their meal tend to feel full faster. An individual should never eat standing up or while in a rush.

Aside from making diet changes, one should also begin exercising on a daily basis. Even those who live a busier lifestyle can still find some time for exercise. Walking just twenty minutes on a daily basis can help an individual to keep off one extra pound each year. It is recommended that an individual exercise for at least one hour each day. There are many different exercises that can be done.
