Give Your Body Time to Adapt

You will need to dedicate time to weight training, follow a structured nutrition plan, and purchase a gym membership or your own home bodybuilding equipment.

Depending on your current lifestyle, these changes can seem fairly overwhelming to the beginner bodybuilder.

Many beginner bodybuilders make the mistake of diving head first into a bodybuilding program only to become overwhelmed after a few short weeks.

It is important to give your body, and your mind, time to adapt to your new training regimen and lifestyle change.

Start Slow

When starting out with beginner bodybuilding, I recommend choosing a bodybuilding workout schedule that only requires you to weight train 3 or 4 days a week.

I have several reasons for making this suggestion.

Your body will not be used to the stress that your weight training sessions will introduce. Therefore, it is likely that your muscles will be fairly sore for the first 2-3 weeks of following your workout plan.

By only weight training 3-4 days per week, you will give your body an extra day or two to recover from your workouts.

It is okay to weight train if you are still sore from your last workout, but if you are too sore, you may be discouraged from performing your workouts.

After you have followed a 3 or 4 day per week bodybuilding workout schedule for at least 8 weeks, your body will be accustomed to the stresses of weight training and you can increase the days per week that you weight train to 4 or 5.

Consistency is the Key

Nothing will be as important to your bodybuilding success as your workout consistency.

Most people fail to reach their full physical potential because they do not follow a consistent workout plan week after week.

Setting unrealistic goals for yourself is the best way to set yourself up to fail. Trying to go from casually working out a couple of days every week to following an intense bodybuilding routine 5 days a week will likely cause you to feel overwhelmed and unable to stick to your program.

Following a reasonable bodybuilding workout schedule of 3-4 weight workouts per week will go a long way towards ensuring that you maintain your workout consistency in the early going by giving you a reasonable plan to follow that will not be overwhelming or unrealistic for you as a beginner bodybuilder.

Measure Your Results

Nothing is more frustrating than spending hours at the gym every week only to see little or no results.

While it may take a month or two before you can see the results in the mirror, if you are following an effective bodybuilding workout schedule and nutrition plan, along with utilizing the right muscle confusion techniques, you should be able to see your results by taking various body measurements.

If your bodily measurements are not moving in the desired direction every week or two, you need to re-evaluate your bodybuilding routine and make sure you are following all aspects of your bodybuilding program as I have described on this website.
